PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN AND APPLICATION
Lesson 1: Textile Design and Different Textile Structures

There are different textile structures based on different manufacturing techniques

A fabric is a structure made from yarns, from fibres, or from nonfibrous substances such as plastics, rubber, or metal. Of these, the fabrics made from yarns are more complex and usually more expensive. Difference between fabric and cloth is that a fabric refers to any material made through weaving, knitting, crocheting, or bonding. Cloth refers to a finished piece of fabric that can be used for a purpose such as covering a bed. There are different textile structures based on different manufacturing techniques and can be classified as follows:

  1. Woven fabrics
  2. Knitted fabrics
  3. Non-woven fabrics
  4. Crochet
  5. Others structures made with different techniques
