Creating optical illusions

A change in appearance of an area by means of proportion might involve the lengthening or broadening effects of vertical and horizontal lines. The vertical lines in the Fig.6.8 are the same length but the diagonal lines in “a” create the optical illusion of additional length and diagonal lines in “b” create optical illusion of reducing length. Optical illusion in textile designs (Fig.6.9) can be created by overlapping of different /similar shapes to combine them (a) rather than putting them in simple manner next to each other (b). Through overlapping of similar shapes, depth and measurement can be created in the pattern (c).
