By having sufficient background space around objects

If motifs are packed together closely, they attract less attention than when widely separated. Spacing makes the motif more noticeable. In case of applied decoration, the background area should be plain, if woven design of the fabric to be printed is elaborate and more interesting, the decoration applied to it will not be emphasized and it may lead towards confusing surface pattern (Fig.6.3). Plain backgrounds bring out the quality of design (Fig.6.2) seen against them properly.
