Lesson 9:Architectural Symbols

Architectural symbols

  • Symbols are needed to classify and simplify drawings.
  • They are used as substitute symbols for materials and fixtures.
  • It is often more convenient and timely to draw a symbol than to repeat a description every time it is used.
  • It would be impossible to describe all construction materials without the use of symbols.
  • Learning and remembering symbols will be easier if you associate each symbol with the actual material or facility it represents.
  • Several symbols must be added to the plan to relate it to the other drawings.
  • They are drawn with medium lines.
