    • Clove, mace and nutmeg were introduced in India by the East India Company, but the country is yet to reach self-sufficiency in
    • these spices. Their annual production is more than 2000-2500 tonnes. Only 3000-4000 tonnes are imported annually.
    • Vanilla is an another spice crop, which is gaining popularity among the farmers.
    • It has high demand in the international market.
    • The increasing health awareness all round the world, preference for natural products and rapid rise in demand for processed foods with natural flavours had augmented the demand for vanilla especially in the United States and European markets.
