They are the learned beliefs thoroughly internalized and transmitted. Along with the family the near and far environment also has its influence on the development of value pattern in an individual. Values help an individual to direct his/her efforts more intelligently in seeking satisfaction.

Now a days we live in groups and communities, the influence of communication and for media have pattern among the individuals and family. Usually a few values are held commonly by all family members and each individual will have his/her value pattern developed based on the environment in which he lives.

The development of values does not stop at any age. It is a lifelong process as the experience and contacts increase. Each individual or family may strengthen or change some values and develop new values in the changing society and are prone to gradual change according to the pressures and needs of the society and environment on the individual and family. The slow and gradual change in value pattern is normal and accepted by the family and society. But rapid change may cause unrest and feelings of uncertainty in the society.

Example: Marriage- change in its pattern may cause unrest.
Dressing- gradual change is accepted.

Usually values are developed and established unconsciously and they change unconsciously. The development of value pattern and its change differ from one individual to another. Each family develops its own set of values according to its customs beliefs, tradition and its environment in which it lives.
