Role of Dobby in Creating designs

  • Elaborate structural designs for sarees, made-ups and dress materials are produced with the help of jacquard.
  • Often heavy fabrics of upholstery, furnishings, floor coverings and elaborate self designed or multi coloured figures are woven with power driven jacquard looms.
  • Most of the traditional sarees with elaborate motifs are produced with jacquard shedding mechanism.
  • In the recent years new computer-assisted software is employed to weave jacquard patterns either on air jet or rapier looms.
  • Most exquisite landscape and picturesque patterns for wall decoration purpose are created on jacquard looms.
  • The software in the floppy disk instructs the jacquard on selection of warp yarns and coloured filling yarns.
  • This system weaves at a speed of 600 picks per minute, compatible with several CAD systems and allows for easy and quick pattern alterations.
