3.2.4. Myofibril
Myofibril is about one or two mm, or microns in diameter and extends the entire length of muscle fibre. The number of myofibrils per fibre is quite variable. At the end of the fibre the myofibrils are attached to sarcolemma. Two sizes of filaments thick one and thin one are present. Myofibrils are staped like cycindrical column. Along the length of each myofibril alternate sets of thick and thin filaments over lap, presenting alternate bands of light and dark regions. |
