3.2.9. Visceral or angle unity muscle

The individual smooth muscle cells of the intestine is roughly spindle shaped; voide in a middle and tapening to the ends; some are ribbon shaped or rod shaped. In thickest middle section the diameter is usually 5 to 10 microus, 10 to 20 times smaller than skeletal muscle fibres. The length of smooth muscle cell ranges bet 50 and 500 m. In most of the tubular organs smooth muscle contraction is in form of peristaltic waves.
