Applied decorative designs

Decoration may also be applied to any surface. Such surface embellishment may be called applied decorative designs.

Application of decorative designs on a fabric is conditioned by

  1. The structural design of fabric
  2. End use of the fabric whether it is for furnishing or apparels or for some other purpose, it affects the size of motif, repeat size etc.
  3. The personality of the designer (which determines the character or quality of the design)
  4. Standards for good design (proper use of elements and principles of design)
  5. The amount of decoration desirable according to the purpose or end use
  6. The nature of design (stylized, geometrical, abstract or naturalistic)
