Discharge Printing

In discharge printing, design is printed on dyed fabric with printing paste containing discharging agent that removes colour from the printed area of the dyed fabric. It produces white design on coloured background. If a dye is added in the printing paste along with the discharging agent then coloured discharge is produced on the differently coloured dyed fabric. If fabrics are not processed carefully to remove all the discharge paste, these chemicals may eventually weaken the fabric in the areas from which colour has been discharged. Discharge prints are recognizable because the colour of the background design of the fabric is the same on both the front and back sides (Fig.10.4).
