Parallel Slide

The parallel slide performs the same function as the T-Square. It is used as a guide for drawing horizontal lines and as base for aligning triangles in drawing vertical lines the parallel slide is anchored at both sides of the drawing board as shown in figure 9, which eliminates the possibility of sag at one end, which is a common problem with the use of the T-Square. This device is attached to the drafting board with thin wire and moves up and down, staying parallel to its original position at all times. The drawing board can be tilted to any angle without causing the slide to fall to the bottom of the board. If it is adjusted correctly it will stay in the exact position in which it is placed. Another type of parallel rule (figure 10) is used to draw parallel lines. It is basically two rulers held together by two linkages. The linkages provide the parallel motion. The rulers have scales either metric, imperial or both.
