United Nations with High Commissioners and Office for Refugees (UNHCR)

The United Nations with High Commissioners and Office for Refugees has worked in the context of IYC for the increase in protection of refugee children through a new campaign for ratification of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness, and improved application of the 1951 Convention on the Status of Refugees particularly in relation to schooling, family reunification, and naturalization. The UNHCR has also made a new IYC connected push in the fields of health, nutrition and general welfare which has succeeded among other things in obtaining 243 new visa to Belgium for unaccompanied Vietnamese children, the field of new fund-raising, the UNHCR's• compendium of projects. The refugee child has to date attract $3 million• for specific projects benefiting refugee children for instance Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, Sweden, the UK, Yugoslavia, Botswana and Thailand, and for the resettlement of the children of "boat people" families.
