Importance Of Lapping

Garments for men and for women close on opposite sides. Women's garments close to the left while men's close to the right. Back opening in dresses for small children follow the same rule, the right side laps to the left. Buttonholes are on the right and buttons on the left of the opening. There are two parts in most fasteners-one part is sewn to the overlap, the other to the underlap.
