Hem depth

The depth of a hem depends on

• Location of hem in garment (Sleeves, Skirt etc)
• Garment style
• The fabric

General guidelines for hem depth are:

Garment	Style	Depth in Inches
Dresses, Skirt	Straight	2” – 2 ½ ”
	A-Line	1 ½ “ - 2”
	Gathered Skirt	½ “ - 1 ½ “
	Circular, Bias Skirts	¼” – 5/8 ”
Pants		1 ½ “ - 2”
Sleeves		1” - 1 ½ “
Jackets Coats	Lightweight	1 ½ “ - 2”
	Heavyweight	2” -3”
