Forks are used for general cultivation. In addition to the loosening of soil, forks are better suited than spades for lifting bulbous or tuberous roots for avoiding cut and damage of bulbous or tuberous roots. Forks are of different types as given below
Garden forks: This is a very popular implement for digging operations. The garden forks usually have four metal prongs which go deep into the soil when pressed with foot on their shoulders. They are available in different sizes.
Potato fork: Potato fork is slightly different from garden fork. It has broad and flat prongs and head, larger than standard-sized garden fork. It is easier to use.
Spading Fork: Used for turning over the soil when it is not too hard or compacted. This tool is also used for lifting bulbs
