Grass shears are very useful for trimming grasses from the corner, edges and other places of lawn where the lawn mower does not have an easy access. Usually, grass shears consist of long handle and blades set at right angles to the handle parallel to the ground. The size of the blades varies between 15 and 20 cm. A simpler type consists of two broad blades arranged as the scissors with their bases attached to a common U-shaped steel strap which acts as the handle with a spring action. The mouth of the shears keeps open allowing the grass to come in and grass is trimmed by pressing the handle.
Skiffing knife, with sword-like blade, hand scythe or haswa or sickles are the other implements commonly used for cutting grass and weeds in the gardens. Apart from lawn mower and grass shear, lawn edger or half moon edger is used to cut uneven lawn edge. It has a sharp, curved cutting blade attached to a handle. A long-handled edging shear is useful tool for trimming over hanging grass along the edge of the lawn.
