  1. Weeding fork: Besides loosening the surface soil, this fork is also used for taking out the weeds. Weeding fork with long handle can be used to remove weeds from centre of a bed. This can avoid trampling of small seedlings

  2. Hoes: Hoes of different kinds are used in gardening purposes. These are very useful for weeding as well as aerating the soil. Most of the intercultural operations are done by hand hoe. It has a sharp-edged triangular blade with a rectangular shoulder fixed with a wooden handle, popularly known as khurpi in India. Another useful small garden tool is known as nirani. One end of a 30 cm long and 1cm thick steel rod is flattened to a crescent shape. The outer edge of the crescent is sharpened to a blade. The other end is fitted with a small wooden handle. Nirani is widely used for weeding and loosening the surface soil.

  4. Draw Hoe: This is used for chopping weeds and drawing up earth around the plants. The curved neck of draw hoe makes it easier to operate between plants without affecting them.
