4.2.4 Shannon and weaver model (1949)

This is an engineering model. In this model, Communication was conceived as a linear act of transmission of a message from a source to a receiver via a signal producing transmitter. This model has four basic elements viz., i. a source of information to communicate message, ii. a transmitter to transform a message into a signal (encoding), iii. a receiver which decodes the signal with a purpose to retrieve the original message and iv. the destination, a person or thing, for whom the message is intended.

This model presents Communication as a liner process. This model has relevance to mass Communication
