4.7.5 Extension barriers

Extension is, undoubtedly, one of the weakest linkages in fisheries. The strength of extension personnel is very low which is not commensurate with the growing demand. Further, they are burdened with more of administrative work than technical work. This kind of working environment adversely affect their performance. Besides, these, the extension personnel of fisheries departments, are provided with little opportunities to update their technical knowledge because in many cases, periodical inservice training programmes for updating their technical skills are not provided regularly. This kind of situation causes gradual decline in their technical expertise and in due to course lose contacts with their clientele.
