Simultaneous auscultation and percussion on the left side

SIMULTATION ASCULATION

  • Used for diagnosing left side abomasal displacement.
  • Auscultating by phonendoscope over an area between the 6th inter costal junction costochondral junction to the upper portion of the left para lumbar fossa while simultaneously percussing with the handle of acoustic hammer.
  • In case of left side displaced abomasums, the sound may be described as hitting on an empty tin or a steel drum or a penny dropping sound.
  • Similar sound will also to occur with a fluid rumen/pneumo peritoneum. But in displaced abomasums, oval in outline and it is smaller area than rumen.
  • The ping is detected on both sides of the body and extend caudally to the pelvic inlet and is detected dorsally over the lumbar area.
