Examination of synovial fluid

EXAMINATION OF SYNOVIAL

  • It is done for: amount of fluid, color, transparency, odour, viscosity, spontaneous coagulation, protein content, cell content, differential count and culture.
  • Normal color: clear or yellowish opaque.
  • Coagulation: No coagulation occurs in sample, which is kept for 48 hours.
  • Mucin precipitation test: It occurs in the pathological condition. Protein content in inflammatory conditions. Hematological changes occur in infection. Neutrophilia in bacterial infection.
