WILLIAM METHOD OF ASCULTATION

  • In this method, chest piece of phonendoscope is held in the left hand and placed in the 7th to 8th ribs at costochondral junction. It will detect the tinkling or fluid-pouring sound when reticulum contracts simultaneously rumen is palpated by the right hand in the hollow of the left flank to establish correlation between the movements of reticulum and rumen.
  • Traumatic reticulo peritonitis can be identified by recticular grunt. It can be heard 2-3 seconds before primary ruminal contraction. Most of the time, the grunt may be heard during the relaxation of the reticulum when the dorsal ruminal sac motility is felt in the left flank.
