Peritoneocentesis

PERITONEOCENTESIS

  • It is useful in peritoneal diseases and diseases of abdominal segment and differential diagnosis of colic in horses and in case of cattle.

Position of puncture:

  • Caudal to xiphoid sternum, 4-10 cm lateral to midline.
  • Left of the middle, 3-4 cm medial, 5-7 cm cranial to the foramen to left subcutaneous abdominal vein. Use 16-gauge needle of 15 cm length.

Examination is done for:

  • Color, consistency, odour, protein, specific gravity, RBC, WBC and differential count.
