Shirring

Shirring is formed with multiple rows of gathering to give decorative or textured effect. It appears as a decorative feature at the shoulder, waist line, and lower edge of sleeves and usually at the narrower parts of garment for allowing a certain amount of stretching. Light weight fabrics are the most appropriate for shirring but it can also be used on such fabrics as jersey or wool crepe. Shirring can be done by these methods.
