Elasticized Shirrs

Elasticized shirrs are those in which elastic is used to draw gathers. Lines are marked at a distance of I - 2.5 cm on the wrong side of the fabric. A 0.5 cm wide, highly elasticized elastic should be used. The length of the elastic strip should be three fourth size of ready width of the shirred fabric. The stitch length on the machine is increased and the stretched elastic is stitched. No extra fabric is required to sew at the back, as the elastic can bear the strain of the shirring. The elasticized shirring is suitable for children's clothes, lingerie and washable skirts.

This is very effective in sheer fabrics. Thin and soft fabrics such as voiles, silks, chiffons and such other textured fabrics are suitable for making shirring than firm fabrics. Shirring by machine is quick and produces strong and even stitches. While shirring the entire section of the garment it is better to shirr the fabric first and then cut the section as per the requirement of the pattern.
