2.2.4 Personal letters

It is a personal and individual letter written by the extension worker to a farmer or vice-versa in connection with extension works . In practice, personal letters are used to answer enquiries from farmers regarding specific farm problems, supplies and services etc. This method can also be used to seek the farmer’s co-operation in extension activities.

Merits

1. Individual problem can easily be solved.

2. Cheap method.

3. It facilitates farmers’ co-operation.

4. It helps to develop good relations and confidence.

Demerits

1. It is a time consuming method.

2. Has the limited usage for illiterates.

3. It is, sometimes, very difficult for the extension worker to get first-hand information about the problem and to answer each and every individual problem.
