2.2.5. Applications

1. Purification of biological macromolecules such as proteins, enzymes, antibodies, hormones, nucleic acids, polysaccharides, viruses, etc.

2. Relative molecular mass determination of proteins and enzymes, particularly globular proteins.

3. Concentration of solutions of high molecular mass substances by Sepahdex G-25, as it gel absorbs water and low molecular mass substances and exclude high molecular mass substances.
   

4. Desalting of high molecular mass compounds by Sephadex G-25, as it removes contaminants such as salts, detergents, lipids and chaotropic agents. They are also used in removal of phenol from nucleic acids, ammonium sulphate from proteins and monosaccharides from polysaccharides.
