2.6.3.3. Column

The separation of components in the mixture takes place in the column on the basis of the their interaction with stationary and mobile phases. The separation depends on stationary phase type, stationary film thickness, column inner diameter and column length.

There are two general types of columns:

1. Packed column
2. Capillary or open tubular column
