2.6.3.4.3. Cross-linked and bonded phases

In cross linked stationery phase, the individual polymer chains are linked via covalent bonds. In bonded stationary phases, the polymers are covalently bonded to the surface of the tubing. Both these forms impart enhanced thermal and solvent stability to the stationary phase. Polysiloxanes and polyethylene glycol are available in bonded and cross-linked forms. Very few of them are available in non-bonded version. It is better to use a column that has both bonded and cross-linked stationary phases, if available.
