2.4.2.4. Composite supports

There are two types of composite supports such as polysaccharide - polyacrylamide and magnetic beads.

  1. Polysaccharide-Polyacrylamide: Combination of polysaccharides with acrylamide polymers provide a support that possess the tensile strength of polyacrylamide and the high molecular weight sieving qualities of the polysaccharide gels. The amide groups of the polyacrylamide and OH groups of allyl dextran are used for ligand attachment. eg. Sephacryl HR.
  2. Magnetic beads: Magnetic beads are used as ligand supports for batch separation, in which the affinity ligand is recovered with a magnet. eg. Magnogel
