2.4.2.2. Inorganic supports

Inorganic material used as support matrices include silica and glass. They are mainly used for the immobilization of enzymes.

  1. Silica: Silica is chemically modified to produce silane groups for attachment of side chains such as epoxy or thio groups. These side chains provide attachment for the ligand.

  2. Solid Glass Beads: Solid glass beads are not available with reactive side chains. They are first silanized and modified to attach the reactive side chains. They have high flow rates and used for construction of preparative columns.
