2.7.2.2. Pumping System

High pressure should be applied to the mobile phase to force the solvent through the column. This is done by a motor-driven pump which can generate a pressure of upto 6000 psi or 50 MPa . Pumps should deliver pulse-free output and resistant to corrosion by a variety of solvents. They should operate at flow rates of 0.1 to 10 ml/min. Several types of pumps are available and the important ones are reciprocating piston pumps and syringe type displacement pumps.
