5.1.1. The Word Processor

5.1.1 The Word Processor

Word processing is the process of transforming ideas into written communication quickly and accurately through the use of computer technology. The process includes the following tasks:

  • Creation
  • Correction
  • Manipulation
  • Storage
  • Retrieval and
  • Printing

Suppose we need to send a letter to a number of persons. One way of doing this is to cyclostyle or print the letter. But such pre-printed letters are often ignored or given less importance. We can personalise each letter by creating it on the word processo r (WP) and printing it out on the word processor printer for each person. If we want to send a similar letter in future, it can be stored in one of the magnetic storage devices of the WP and used with modifications, if necessary. In a similar way, all docu ments can be created, stored and produced.
