A figure with broad shoulders causes creases form across the upper part of the back, and around the armhole seam on the back and the sleeve. The garment shown is too narrow on the shoulder and back width lines. The crown of the sleeve may also be too narrow. This defect makes a garment very uncomfortable to wear as it restricts the movements of the arms,
Re-measure the shoulder and back width of the figure and extend the pattern accordingly. Curve the new armhole line smoothly. As a guide for drawing the armhole curve - draw a line passing through new shoulder point (A-B), perpendicular to the centre back line. The measurement of this line should always be 1/8 "-1/4" (3mm-6mm) more than the measurement of the back width line, in order that the upper part of the armhole curves out slightly and is not a completely straight line. Since, in this case, the shoulder and back width have widened equally, the curve of the armhole will automatically remain correct.
