If the side length measurement is much greater than the front and back lengths, prominent hips are indicated and it is advisable to adjust the pattern before cutting out.
Calculate the difference between back and side lengths. Cut across the pattern on the hip line and add that amount of length on the back side seam. e new centre back line is drawn from the waist parallel to the original line. In this way, a small amount of width is also added on the hip line, while retaining the same waist size. Correct the line of the e seam and alter the front pattern in the same way.
Many people have one hip larger than the other and in this case it will be necessary to alter one side the pattern only.
