A figure with a large arm causes the sleeve to have tight, horizontal creases near the top arm line.

Re-measure the figure to find the amount of extra width needed. Cut through the centre line of the sleeve and spread the sections apart the required amount on the top arm line. The sleeve may be widened an equal amount at the wrist (diagram 1) or the wrist measurement may remain the same (diagram 2). Check the measurements on the elbow and wrist lines before cutting out. The front and back arm lines will need to be re-positioned, as shown by the broken lines in each diagram.
Do not just add width onto the side seams, as the crown of the sleeve would then be too narrow.
Remember that any alteration of this kind changes the length around the sleeve head, and the armhole size may need to be changed to correspond, by raising or lowering the underarm point.
