  • Freshwater, Southern Asia
  • Body usually with small unculiferous tubercles
  • Thick leathery skin
  • Adipose fin present (confluent with caudal in some genera and consisting of a small spine in the elongate Sisor sp.)
  • Dorsal fin base short, fin with or without a spine
  • Adhesive apparatus in thoracic region present or absent
  • Four pairs of barbells with fleshy bases.
  • Head and anterior part of body depressed

  • Gill membranes restricted to sides.
