Name: Mormyridae Genus: Gnathonemus English name: none Origin: Size: approximately 23 cm Habitat: Found in very shady marshes and fresh waters with muddy bottoms Shape, coloring and markings: The body is elongated and laterally very compressed. the tail is slender. The mouth is small and cylindrical: The basic coloration is an anthracite blue-black or brownish violet. The belly is lighter. A deep black and front is to be found between the dorsal and anal fins, which lie opposite each other. The fleshy base of the caudal fin is dark: otherwise all the fins are grey or black. The pectoral fin is well developed. There are no known external sexual characteristics. |
