4.2.17 Hemichromis bimaculatus
Family: Cichlidae Genus:Hemichromis English Name: Jewel Fish, Red Cichlid and Jewel Cichlid Origin: Throughout tropical Size: Maximum 15 cm Habitat: Found in still and flowing waters. Shaping, coloring and markings: The body is elongated, fairly deep and laterally slightly compressed. The basic coloration is olive brown: the throat and belly are red. One black patch lies on the middle of the body, and another, edged with gold, on the gill covers. The body is flecked with glistening, bluish green spots. During the spawning season the body and all the fins (except the pectoral) in both sexes become a beautiful red and the iridescent spots turn into larger vivid bluish green marks. There are no external sexual characteristics. |
