4.2.30 Gambusia affinis
Family: Poeciliidae Genus: Gambusia English name: Silver Gambusia, Spotted Gambusia and Western osquito Fish Origin: Taxas, the hasins of the rivers san Antonio and Guadalupe Size: Males to 4 cm females to 6.5 cm Habitat: Found in many different quiet waters. Shape, coloring and markings: The body is elongated and laterally only very slightly compressed. The head is large and flat on top. The females are almost cylindrical in the body. The basic coloration is yellowish, becoming silvery white towards the belly. Irregular dark or black dots lie on the back and upper half of the body: a pattern of dark stripes appears below the eyes. The fins are predominantly colorless and transparent but the dorsal and caudal fins have dark marks. Females are a light olive green with a few scattered dark marks. The fins are colorless. Males are as described above. |
