4.2.4 Brachydanio Rerio
Family: Cyprinidae Genus: Brachydanio English name: Zebra Danio Origin: Size: Approximately 4.5 cm Habitat: Found in sluggish and stationary waters and in rice paddies. Shape, coloring and markings: The body is very slender and laterally only moderately compressed. The back is a brown olive: the belly yellowish-white: the flanks are an attractive blue with four gleaming gold longitudinal stripes running from the edge of the gill covers to the caudal fin. The anal fin has a blue-gold pattern. The dorsal fin is yellow-green at the base, becoming blue, with a milky-white border. The remaining fins are colorless and transparent. The iris is red-gold. Females are more robust: the longitudinal stripes are more yellow or silver. Male are as described above and noticeably slimmer than females. |
